The 2nd card for this theme I used "Owl Balloon" provided by another sponsor - Eureka!  I have a love affair going on with their "Balloons" - so different and so fun!  This one I felt met the challenge theme of Winter Blues with color and the sentiment

TECHNIQUE

Party Hardy!

"Girl with Balloon" provided by Lee's Digi Shop at Etsy

613 Ave. Create Challenge Blog officially surpassed the 500 followers mark
and is having a celebratory
1st Annual Block Party!

OMGosh!  You have to go see all the sponsors for the party and all the prizes being offered!  I have never seen anything like it and I sooo wish I was eligible to play - I'd be all over it like starch on rice!  The image above, "Girl with Balloon", is from one of many sponsors and is perfect for this occasion!
As usual, the challenge at 613 this week is Anything Goes with an optional theme of Party/Celebrate.  The DT ended up using images from each of the sponsors... you can see all those wonderful cards & images HERE along with how to get in on the prizes.

TECHNIQUE
[Note: specific information on supplies and sources will be found below under “Supplies”.]
  • A2 base card with a left fold cut from basic white CS
  • DP cut & matted with black CS
  • Image flipped & re-sized for 2nd image - these were colored with Copics
  • Two coordinating DPs used to print dresses, headbands and balloons for paper piecing.  These were fussy cut, sculpted from the back and attached with glue and foam tape to the original image panel
  • Panel cut down to allow portions of the head and balloons to escape the "box" & then matted in black
  • "Party Hardy" sentiment computer generated , punched and matted with SU punches & silver brads were then inserted in the ends.  This was mounted on foam tape for elevation on the image panel.
  • The completed image panel & sentiment was attached with foam tape to the background panels
  • A coordinating green waxed linen cord was wrapped around both panels and around the brads.  A bow was tied around the cord on the right edge. This entire package is then attached to the front of the card base.
  • Inside completed with leftover papers from the front.

Tackle the Day...

Sentiment was provided by Stamp Art Designs by Kathryne

The challenge is to make the Sentiment the Focus.
Aud Sentiments challenge this go around was not an easy challenge for me for some reason. But then that is why it is a challenge - right?  I started with a sentiment that would be perfect for fisherman family members.  I kept trying to come up with an appropriate background - and they all seemed to overpower the sentiment.  Sometimes if I lie down for a nap, I will spend time "quieting my mind" by creating a solution to a design problem.  I came up with the idea of a very muted background - all the images stamped in grey as if in fog.  When I went back to my RubberRoom, I dug around in my "fish" and "nature" drawers & came up with 4 rubber stamps to make the background.  After several test runs, I decided all grey made it really hard to distinguish the images at all, so I went with three Distress inks - a light brown, grey and grey blue.  Then to further distance the background from the focal sentiment, I cut the panel in three sections to create a window.  Not a favorite design by all means... but thought someone might enjoy the insight into my process for this "Not my Usual Style" project.
Stamp Art Design by Kathryne
What I encourage you to do is to go HERE to see what the other very creative  DT women did with this challenge - it's obvious not everyone has trouble with this theme!!  LOL!  You have one more week to enter your projects and a chance at the prize of five free images from the sponsor!  See what you can do when challenged!
TECHNIQUE
[Note: specific information on supplies and sources will be found below under “Supplies”.]
  •  Base card is a basic white A2 size
  • Using "Weathered Wood", "Stormy Sky" & "Pumice Stone" Distress Inks, I stamped the background with four images.
  • The "rainbow" on the trout was created with Copics and I used a wet brush to move around some of the ink in the log to shade it a bit.
  • A Micron 05 pen was used to draw shore line and add additional plant life and give some of the stamped grasses more definition.
  • Image panel was cut in equal thirds and mounted on a black mat
  • The sentiment digi was printed out, colored with the chisel tip of an E35 Copic, fussy cut and attached to a toothpick that had also been "weathered" with warm grey Copics.
  • Using a craft knife I made a small slit in the sand in front of the log and inserted my "stake" into the ground.
  • Both the sign and the background panel & mat were mounted on foam tape to elevate them off the base card & accommodate the wooden "stake".
  • Inside
  • The inside repeats the stamped image of the trout.

Snow much fun...

Cute little snow-people by Vince B. from Crafty Moments is a freebie - as are all his images!  He has some really fun images and I encourage you to check them all out!  I really liked the idea of the blank card that they are holding up and being able to stamp or write anything I want.

This is a quicky New Years and Thank you combined... I am sending them in place of Christmas cards that I never had the chance to make.  Now that is really a shake your head in disbelief, cheap [two in one], multitasking card!  Heavy sigh.  I am so trying to get some kind of card to all my relatives and friends before Valentines day!

Winter is a hoot!

"A Winter Owl Too" provided by Squigglefly
The Color, Sights & Sounds of Winter!  That is the latest challenge at 613 Ave. C.  Winter Colors mean for me the bare browns, snow whites and the sky blues, the Sights bring to mind the wool scarves and hats and the bare branches of the trees, and finally the Sounds of the winter birds singing or hooting.  To represent those sounds, I embossed sheet music on 2 of the three layers using a Cuttlebug folder.

So, think about how you would interpret this theme - and go see what the 613 DT have done with it - HERE.
Definitely a fun challenge!
