Darn It!

I saw this image by Mo Manning and could not stop grinning.  The opportunity it presents to sculpt the layers made me a wee bit giddy!  In this finished piece I can actually put the tip of my little pinky into the thimble and slide things between his pant legs and the spool of thread.  The top of the spool that he is sitting on is also extending out toward the eye.  I so wish I could capture the several intracacies of depth.  This next photo is about the best I can do...
And, this is perfect for a friend who is trying to stitch things together to keep her busy life from falling apart!  Here's to you Kathi!

PROCESS INVENTORY
IMAGES:
  • This image is "Darn It" by Mo Manning and can be found at her shop - Digital Pencil Too.
  • For the focal image I used Paper Tole Technique to give him dimension. Printed 3 copies,  colored them with Copics, fussy cut and 'paper sculpted' the images with a ball tool.  The layers were both glued in some places & elevated in others with foam tape to achieve the desired dimension.
  • The sentiment inside is a die cut from SU.
PAPER:

  • Neenah "Classic Crest Solar White" 80# Cover Wt. used for the image.
  • DP used for the mat and the basic cardstock itself are both from stash.
  • The inside was created using leftover papers from the front.

EMBELLISHMENTS:
  • I decided the only embellishment would be the stitching with a waxed, blue linen, book binders' thread to match the color palette.
INKS:
  • Images were printed on an Epson WF-3520 printer
  • Hand colored with Copics:

    1. ~ginny, this is so fabulous! I love both your colouring and your sculpting of this awesome image. The dimension is wonderful and it turns a flat image into a 3D vignette...so charming! The stitching with the bookbinder's thread is an inspired detail. The whole project makes me smile. I love the whimsy :)
