Party Animal...

This is my DT submission for the Monday morning "Party Animal" challenge at Craft Your Passion.  My niece has always loved dragons so this was my obvious choice of a celebrating animal!
He was printed out, colored with Copics and then an embossed frame was created with a Scor-It tool.  Tag  and punched circles were made for the sentiment, the blue mat layer under the image is embossed with a Cuttlebug folder for texture.  The flags were printed on scraps of paper, cut and foam tape elevated on the waxed linen book binding thread that has been sewn thru the spine of the card.
Added a little bling, finished the inside (below) & called it done!

If you are so inclined - check out the Design Team's take on this theme & join  the "Party Animal" Challenge at Craft Your Passion by Saturday, 5/25!

Time Heals...

As I have said so many times before, my all time favorite Digi (and now rubber) Artist,  is Mo Manning.  Here is one of her quirky characters that "speaks" to me.  I colored him with Copics, added a tab for the sentiment and began the process of layering him on Basic Grey papers. The one immediately below the focal image is a plain beige on which I have stamped three different watch stamps and watch hands.
I sewed the top three layers together with a brown waxed linen (used for book binding).   Copper square brads were added to one mat pairing and a Tim Holtz Trinket Pin to the other.  (See right)

The inside used the same papers from the front.
Product details are all listed below.

I will be entering this card in Mo's Digital Pencil DT Call.

Child's Play...

It is Monday and time for the weekly challenge at Craft Your Passion. This one is called Child's Play and requires simply a child or children at play!  So this is my take on the theme - Rules for the challenge and more inspiration from the Design Team can be found (HERE)!

One of my very earliest childhood memories is of coloring with a babysitter.  I was a tow-head then and this scene really brings it all back!  Probably down to the paint spots on the smock & the wall (should have made that the floor, eh?)!

The image was printed out twice, colored with Copics, one was fussy cut into 3 sections, edges colored with black and finally sculpted to round the pieces. The three sections were the legs, head and the smock & they were attached to the first print out with glue in places I wanted to recede (as in the neck, right arm and shoes) and with foam tape where it should stand out (her head, left arm and lower smock.)  The smock was obviously paper pieced from Basic Grey paper (matched with the BG yellow DP used as matting.)
The inside consists of scraps from the three papers used on the front.
All products are listed in detail below.

Off the desk...

Decided to share one of my idiosyncrasies with you...  as many of you know from seeing my RubberRoom, I have an AWFUL time letting go of scraps of lovely paper left after a project.  So I often will challenge myself to make a card with only scraps or leftovers off my desk.  I thought I would start a new feature explaining my methodology & encouraging many of you with a similar bent.

When I do clean off the desk top, anything large enough for a sentiment or to record my Copic colors (see below) but smaller than an A2 size is put in a small set of drawers .  (see right) So I do count anything in the drawers as "on the desk".  A2 size DP (Designer Paper) or CS (Card Stock) is filed by color in a shoe box.  Many times I also have left over embellishments such as the butterflies, flowers, twine, ribbon, etc which go in the top drawer.  The four drawers below that are color coded: blue & green, red and purple, yellow, orange and browns & last white and black.  I taped pieces of colored CS to the front of each drawer indicating the colors.

Sooo - today was a good day to make the 2 cards above "Off my desk...".  Not ones I would send normally, or even enter in challenges, but the grandkids don't have a clue (yet) that these are leftovers.
The system is easy, I pick up coordinating papers in the biggest sizes and start trying to make a layout.  In this case, even the focal images were left over stamped images that I colored with Copics to match the color scheme of the papers.  If I have papers in really small pieces, I will punch them to make the butterflies or flowers - and in this case, I also cut out pennants to hang across the top.  The only thing not off my desk are the pearls or gems I used as final details.  Sometimes I will doodle as with the faux stitching or the details on the butterfly.

Hope you can find something useful here - enjoy your scraps!

Floral Delight...

Don't know what it is about old canning jars... I have a collection of blue ones from the old farm in Iowa and when I see an image of one, I have to have it!  I have empty jars stamps that I put bugs in (for a "Sorry about the bug you caught" sentiment) and to stuff with candy images, etc.  And now this image called "Flower Jar" from Bugaboo.  Perfect!  This will do nicely for Monday's Craft Your Passion challenge "Floral Delights".  I used two coordinating papers from Basic Grey and embellishments that kind of melt into the background so even though the details are there, the image remains a strong focal point.  The image was printed out twice, colored with Copics, fussy cut the flowers and layered them with foam tape for dimension.  (You can see that more in the close up below.)
The edges of all the panels have been inked with Distress Inks, the sheer orange ribbon with satin edges was added, the three graduated buttons and finally the lace ribbon around the bouquet.   The label  on the jar is empty so I added a simple "Enjoy" sentiment from a rubber stamp set.

This card is so versatile -
for Mother's Day, a Birthday or Just Because!

Have a Special Day...

I am a huge Mo Manning fan - the images run from whimsical to poignant and are so versatile.  This little gal is no different with her sign/ paper that can hold a sentiment or a picture or??
I printed her out twice, colored her with Copics and then fussy cut and sculpted the back of each of the four pieces.  These were individually layered on the base copy with certain edges glued flat and others elevated with foam tape.  As the two photos on the left are rotated you can see the 3-D effect that is not obvious on the full front shot.
The Ticket was stamped on left over DP that was also used for the edge of the message panel inside and the punched butterfly.  (I am a little obsessed with trying to use up scraps!)
I used a Cuttlebug Embossing folder on the Teal layer, all layers were corner punched with a "Ticket Stub" punch.  Candi was colored and added to the corners (details and products used can be found below). The final touch was yarn-ribbon wrapped around the layer and knotted.
