A Summer Dress...

Charming image from A Day for Daisies... perfect for a "Summer" challenge.
After coloring the focal image I masked off the edges and used Distress Inks to create a faux frame.  I used a lace punch to make a "ribbon" for down one side, a Cuttlebug folder to create the plaid on the base card and finally colored white Candi with the same pink Copic I used for her dress to fit the corners punched with the stub shape.

This card should be eligible for the following

Two Flags...

The VERY last of my patriotic cards... I promise!
This is a Sassy Cheryl image colored with Copics and a 2nd print out of the image was made to allow the flags to be cut out and adhered with foam tape for dimension.  The panel was cut with the flag out of the box,  the edging done with Distress Inks and finally white star eyelets were put on the corners.  The white on white panel was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and a "stub" corner was cut with a punch.  Both panels were assembled on the dark blue base card.  I wanted something plain and simple (for me that means no ribbons, glitter or flowers) yet with texture.

SuperBird...

Another fun image for the 4th - I enjoyed coloring him!  He was "fancy cut", sculpted from the back, mounted on foam tape for dimension.  Two layers of DP, twine, button, tag and faux brads finished him off.  Only regret is that my handwriting is not better today - heavy sigh.
TOP TIP for Top Tip Tuesday:  Once you have cut out an image to mount on your project, don't layer it flat, instead add dimension by "sculpting" the image from the back.  This is easily done by using a Pergamano pad if you have one, or a mouse pad or rubber mat - place the image face down and in small circles emboss the entire back using a large ball tool or the back of a spoon.  Mount the image on silicon or foam double sided tape to maintain the curvature.

Tilda and Edwin...

This Magnolia image of Tilda and Edwin has been pretty versatile - useful for all kinds of celebrations depending on the color choices and the sentiment. Now I am adding "romance" to it's list of uses.

After coloring with Copics, I added the strip of paper to  the right with one edge punched with lace and the other side embossed with my Score-It - plus a ribbon.  It was still too plain even after adding the Hero Hues Dots on the corners, which brings me to a TIP:  I ended up using a pen to draw in the three frame lines - which is amazingly simple!  You don't have to draw straight - you deliberately wave the lines and cross them with each other.  It helps to have a pencil dot in the 4 corners to aim for so that the frame remains somewhat of a rectangle.  It doesn't hurt to allow the lines to go behind your image so that the focal image is partially "out of the box"!
That image panel was then mounted on a sparkly lavender panel and then on to the card base.

ABC Challenge - R = Romance

WINNER! Bella honors the 4th...

Anything but a card... how about a tag for the 4th?

Started with Sassy Cheryl's "Bella Honors the 4th" digi which I colored with Copics.  After masking off the edges, I made a faux frame by sponging on Distress Ink, embellished with another "Thinking of You" tag and added Candi to the corners.
TOP TIP for TTT:  Instead of buying all the different colors of Candi, buy only white and color with a Copic that you have used in your image.  It takes the color easily and then you have something that matches exactly!
For the tag itself - I used scrap blue paper and cut it's corners & punched the hole.  I added two layers of ribbon on each side - the first layer is shiny and I didn't like the look so I added grosgrain red, turned the tag over and cut off the excess ribbon. You can still see the shiny ribbon as it was slightly larger.  The white grosgrain used in the tag's hole is held in place by tying the red twine around it.  Because I could not find a stamp that fit down the middle, I hand drew stars, cut them out and glued down.

Carly has her first carrot of the summer -

Peachy Girl...

This is a Mo Manning image that lends itself to several challenges this go around.  The images were colored with Copics, including the Zentangle garden I created in the background.  The panel was trimmed so the butterfly and hem of her dress were cut "out of the box".  The edge was sponged with Distress Ink and then I layered it on panels of CS with a lace ribbon inspired by the sketch from the 2 Sisters Blog.  The three buttons were added when I could not find a sentiment to fit.

Three Fishes...

This is one of several cards that I made using tissue over the background.  In this case I used a background stamp from Stamp Out Cute, adhered plain white tissue paper, cut down the edges and glued to the front of black CS.  The final step was to stamp the fish three times, cut out and glue on top.  Done!  I like how the tissue mutes the background.

Quilted Bunting...

All in all - a pretty quick card... I used a 1" punch to punch out the squares from Basic Grey DP, mounted them on a black panel in a quilt pattern and centered the panel on my card front.  Next was to use a larger square punch, cut each square in half and cut the V in the bottom.  The top was scored about 1/4 inch so I could easily fold the pennants over and tape to the black embroidery thread.  Two holes were punched in each corner of the base card front, the thread was sewn through and then knotted on the front.  The sentiment is Hero Arts - Operation Write Home collection.
The inside is shown at the right.

Three Crowns...

This clean and simple card was made with a color blocking technique I saw on a video recently.  So easy and a great way to use up scraps.  It requires a panel cut down smaller than the A2 base card, lay down several strips of double sided tape and then lay down color strips cut randomly from scraps.  Once covered, turn the panel over and cut away any overlap with scissors.  The "Crazy Crowns" were stamped on left over pieces and then embossed.  At this point they were fancy cut and turned over and dry embossed from the back.  This allows the crowns to curve outward and they were mounted with foam tape to maintain the dimension. Gemstones and pearls were added to embellish them and the sentiment was put on a banner and mounted last.  Inside is also simple...

Red, White and Blue...

A "CASE" card based on the Penny Black sketch (see below) was fun and definitely a challenge.  The Penny Black bear image was colored with Copics and then the assembly began.  The base CS was embossed with a Cuttlebug, the circle cut with a Spellbinder die,  tags with a Sizzix die -(eyelets used for all three), flowers and centers punched out and all was assembled.  A 2nd balloon was colored, cut out and mounted on foam tape as was the "Wish" tag.

Celebrate Wildly...

An unassuming front opens into something a little more fun...
making the inside piece is actually easy - use the photo below as a visual guide...

  • Fold CS a little smaller than an A2 card and fold back both flaps so the edges meet the center fold making an "M" fold  This makes your inner pop-out.
  • Open the side panels back up and then, along the fold, punch a shape - any one will do - a heart, circle, square, etc  Make sure  the fold is cut when you punch... see my sample - I used a heart shape..
  • For your base card, in this case an A2 size card, add DP as desired and then glue or tape down the flaps of the "M" shaped inner CS - center it - and be careful to check that it does not show outside the A2 card when it is closed.
  • Decorate as you like... you can put things inside the window or hang things from the top of the window.

Not Amused...

OK, fun inspirational challenges leading me to a little quirky play with Mo Manning's image - "Bossy".  I printed her out twice - one for the background and one to color and fancy cut to layer.  I sculpted the image to give her dimension by dry embossing the focal image and crown from the back.   The background was created by adding a shadow around the image to help add depth, then with two shades of light blue Copics I created the rain and the puddle bottom right.  Finally, using Distress Inks, I sponged in the background color from the edge toward the image.  The crown was gold heat embossed on blue CS and all kinds of gemstone bling added in honor of the Diamond Jubilee.  All the cut out pieces were attached with foam tape to maintain the curvature.  Finally the focal image panel was layered on a blue panel and then the red and white polka dot DP from Basic Grey.  Specific sources can be found below.
