Color me Birthday!

Saw this idea on Pinterest... it stuck in my head for days.  I finally had to try this concept, but I no longer have the source - so this is my version of what I remember.  If you originated this idea, or you know who did... PLEASE contact me - I want to give credit for this beautiful, colorful, simple idea!

Went thru my scrap paper and found this combination of colors that work pretty well together on the A2, black base card.  Because I could not find an orange in the color I wanted - I cut a strip of white CS and used a Copic pen to color the strip.  I then used the Creative Punches Letter Punch Set and added the 'HAPPY'.  The 'Birthday' at the bottom and inside sentiment are from the same rubber stamp from a 1992 Country Impressions release - they are embossed in white.
What a fast, easy, colorful idea - and will be good for male or female and teenager to well seasoned folks.

Nourish the Love...

"Let Love Grow"

Happy Birthday Rod!
Hope it's a beautiful day for you - fly and enjoy your retirement! This kinda reminds me of when I was young and such a tomboy - remember the duck we had that would swim in the wheelborrow filled with water?

I used a shiny copper CS from my endless stash for the base of this A2 card.  The panels on the front and inside are Neenah 80lb 'Desert Storm' - it did not photograph true color because I had to increase exposure to get a decent shot on these rainey days of April.
Inside before sentiment added

The image is from Mo Manning's Digital Pencil Too.   Copics and Prismacolor Pencils were used to color her.  Diamond Glaze was used to create water coming from the can onto the petals [look closely, you can see it!].  White Copic Opaque was used on her Farmer-John snaps/buttons.  The embellishment for the panel include the free-hand lines drawn with a Black Micron 0 pen and then the dots on the corners and cascading on the top left are merely punched circles from the same copper CS using a 1/4" and 1/8" punch.  This is one of my favorite ways to add texture - fast, easy and matching embellishments.

Embrace Moments...

I really loved this image - and, if I remember right, a friend let me stamp it once to use.  I have no source for it - if anyone knows please leave me a message!
I used Sepia ink, mounted it on a dark brown CS, wrapped it with dark brown cord tied with a square knot [note the half circles punched on the sides to lock the twine in place.]  Finally, that bundle was elevated on foam and attached to the white base card.
For the inside I used two separate words from pre-inked stamps called Mini-Words  A fishtail cut to both ends of the strip and it was elevated in the middle on foam with the ends glued flat - creating a gently curved sentiment on the brown mat.

Makes a great man card for almost any occasion - I used this one for a sympathy card for a woman I felt was in this space after her husband passed.  She felt it  was "perfect for her situation".  I'm really glad - so hard to find the right words.

Happy Birthday Cale...

I love this new die - it greatly amuses me!  This is my first time to use this 'Birch Tree Window' die from Simon Says Stamp. I was with my little friend Gena, my 13yo neighbor, who immediately wanted me to put an animal peeping out of the trees.  We went thru all my animal stamps together - a giraffe? - no - a carousel horse? - no - an alligator? - definitely not!  FINally we found this moose ['Stanley' from Mostly Animals - long gone company as far as I know!] that was the right size, but he had his rump to the front and was looking over his shoulder [see the picture below with the full moose stamped on the envelope.]  I ended up being able to position him in a perfect position behind trees where you can't see he is back-ass-ward! The next part was finding the perfect backsheet for the vignette - and I found a sheet off my desk I had used for working my Distress inked sponge off for a project.  Just a scrap with all these pale yellows, oranges, greens and browns - absolutely serendipitous!
Final step was to stamp my moose once on the envelope and twice on my Neenah [#80 lb., Super Smooth, Classic Crest Solar White] paper.  I colored them with Copics and then fussy cut all of one and the head & neck of the 2nd one.  The 2nd moose head was then stuck thru the trees so it would be in the front.

In this final pic you can see the dimension of the antlers elevated on foam tape and a hint of the light brown CS used for the very simple inside with my Birthday wishes.

Kingfisher?? Nope! It's a HOOPOE!

A friend wrote and told me this is a Hoopoe - and I discovered this about it from Wikipedia:  "The hoopoe was classified in the clade Coraciiformes, which also includes kingfishersbee-eaters, and rollers."  It is the National Bird of Israel and is NOT kosher!  LOL!  I guess not - we don't eat Eagles either!

This is another quickie male card idea using a freebie from Create with TLC.  I like the vintage feel of the colors and the torn edges - elevated it on foam over Kraft base CS and then used twine and a wooden star button [from stash] to embellish it.

The inside is a simple sentiment on plain paper leaving lots of room for a note.

You'll regret this...

Birthday Mouse by Mo Manning
New challenge at 613 Ave C with a focus on SPRING - so I have opted here to focus on Spring colors.  The DT has some wonderful pieces for inspiration and I encourage you to find time to join the group who are playing along!  You can use the link above to get all the details of the challenge.

  • This is one of Mo Manning's images that I have sculpted using three layers.
  • It was colored with Copics
  • The pink strip matches the pink stars in the DP and has been run thru an E-folder of large dots by We R Memory Keepers.
  • The lace is from stash, as is the star sequin with the tiny seed pearl on top of her party hat.
  • The sentiments are new - the one on the front is from Dylusions by Ranger [elevated on foam tape] and the inside sentiment is from Stampendous.
  • Wink of Stella was applied to the stars on the frosting.

Vintage Road Trip

Happy Birthday to Dean -  he is always talkin' of a road trip!  The technique to achieve this look was shown to our Stampe Diem group.  The images of the cars were stamped on the 'female side' of the Embossing Folder and then the CS was embossed with my Cuttlebug.  I had to finish a lot of the lines with a pen and then carefully color them with Copics so as not to get it on the trees... this took me longer than you would imagine!  The birch were shaded with a light grey ink pad gently wiped over the top of the tree trunks.

Inside was a simple sentiment with a red grosgrain ribbon as the only embelishment - the same ribbon is tied in a bow for the front.
I really like the masculinity of this card.
