Having a black thumb when it comes to plants of ANY kind... I made a rose bush with buttons - LOL!
TECHNIQUE
I started with 3 coordinating papers from Basic Grey - the top one is covered with flowers. Each was matted with a bright pink CS that matches the buttons and areas of the DP. The flowered panel has notches cut in the edge to accommodate the embroidery thread & hold it in place. I made the tassel that gathers the three threads and then tied a pink ribbon around it.
Next I printed two images, colored them and then cut the top image in thirds (legs & shoes, dress & one arm and finally her head). The bird in the rose bush is also two layers. These were sculpted from the back with a ball tool and then attached with new glue system I recently purchased to achieve dimension. (See the Supplies list for details). The edges of the image panel are inked with Distress Inks and the three button were glued down. Finally the sentiment was added... celebrate summer, the garden, whatever!

SUPPLIES
IMAGES: The image is (Pure Innocence 012) by Heather Ellis
PAPER: Neenah Classic
Crest Solar White 80# Cover Wt. used for the images; DP is from Basic Grey's "Sweet Threads" collection; base
CS & pink mat CS is from stash.
EMBELLISHMENTS: The sentiment "Celebrate" is a self inking "Mini Word" on a SU punched tab and mat; buttons, ribbon & embroidery thread from stash; embroidery thread tassel with ribbon bow is handmade.
GLUE: Olba's LijmKit Universal Glue used with syringes (sold seperately) is a new purchase from Whimsy Stamps. It works really well for my style of card making technique with sculpted images. The syringe allows me to deliver a pinpoint of glue, as in under the bird, or to elevate the rounded/sculpted dress, legs and head. I am able to make as large and high support as I want - then carefully lay the piece on top of the glue. It dries fairly quickly, but cure is a 24 hour wait for best results. I was able to clean up the syringe and my fingers with warm soapy water right after using. This is a Universal acid free glue good for glass, metal, paper, most plastics - I really like it so far!! The only concern I have is that it might go pretty fast for me - I need to do a cost analysis with the double sided foam tape I have used historically.
INKS: "Peacock" Distress
Ink was used to distress the edges; the image was printed on a Canon
PIXMA printer
& colored with Copics:

Ginny, I love your button blooms! What a clever idea.
ReplyDeleteYou have completely captured her innocence and sweetness with your amazing colouring. Love the blue shadow around her...so subtle yet effective. The details are wonderful on this card. The handmade tassel, the buttons on the tree, the crisscrossed floss, and the gorgeous sculpting all combine to create an adorable card. Kudos ~ginny. Thanks for the tip about the new glue system. It sounds interesting.
