Photo Inspiration...

Today starts the next challenge with Craft Your Passion -  a "Photo challenge".
On the right is the photo inspiration I have provided for this challenge.  I love the double rainbow!  The piercing around the moon on my card represents that double rainbow for me. I used all Distress Inks on this project with the Tim Holtz Technique of laying the colors down on a craft sheet, spritzing with water and then laying the CS in the colors till I have what I wanted for the moon.  The night sky is direct to paper, as is the torn paper used for the ground.  Since the timing is right for Halloween, I added the bats.  Otherwise, I tried to be pretty faithful to the inspiration.
Go check out what the Design Team did with this inspiration... could be the image, the colors, shapes, etc.  Then let's see what creative thing you can come up with and enter the challenge HERE.

Happy Halloween!!!

This digi image is by Rick St. dennis.  I colored with Copics, fussy cut, sculpted him from the backside and used foam tape to maintain the dimension.  I have been wanting to try the torn page look for awhile and this seemed the right time... all the papers were scraps off my desk piles.  I distressed the edges with Distress Inks, drew in the stitching, and added the three Candis colored with Copics to match.

Guarding the Nest...

I love this image!!  "Guarding the Nest" is from Delicious Doodles, one of the sponsors for the Fairies and Fantasy challenge at Craft Your Passion.
The hardest part was deciding on the colors I wanted to make her.  I will have to do 2 or 3 more versions to try out all the color combos I dreamed of.  So here is the first one - the next one will be oranges, yellows and reds.  Luckily I have a Niece who likes dragons - good for her birthday coming up!.
I decided to create a faux frame for her by taping off the edges and then sponging the Distress Ink in toward the image.  I chose Pumice Stone to mimic a cave or rock ledge for her nest.

Check out the other fabulously fantastic "Fairies and Fantasy" inspiration by the CYP Design Team HERE. and enter your version in the challenge!  Too much fun!

Nicolas is NINE...

Black and White and Red... hopefully macho enough colors to over-ride the "cutesy" bug for a 9 year old! I did put the gentleman-bug on a "Wobble" that makes him shake back and forth when tweaked... certain Nicolas will like that!  You can see that better in the close-up below.
I printed out the "numbers" background, colored in the 9 to match the bug, added twine, layered and done!

TOP TIP: Repairing Copic Reds that have bled outside the lines:
Because Copic Reds bleed so easily - (1) I tend to color the reds first - that way if it bleeds beyond repair, I can always start over & won't have wasted the other coloring time. (2) Color inside the lines leaving a margin until you get a sense of how much the reds will bleed outward.  You can always go back and do a light, thin line of color to fill in the margin.  My attempts at rescuing mistakes include: (3) Wait till the red dries, two to three attempts only with the blender pen to push the red back to the line, then again wait till it dries before you repeat the steps.  This is backward from a blending technique, where you want the colors to move into each other.  If you wet the paper too much with the blender pen, the reds will flow into the wet area, extending the "bleed".  (4) If all else fails, I will "fussy cut" the image to get rid of bleeds. (See ladybug above - LOL!)  And of course, the ultimate solution - see number (1) above!

Which Witch is Which???

starts today!  You can see all the fun inspiration of the Design Team
and enter your own Witch(s) (Here).

This go around for me is another clean and simple card... no bling, no embellishments.  I just printed out and colored the witches, stamped the row of houses and the "Best Witches" sentiment.  I made the fence using a Martha punch and black CS.  The witches were colored   with Blue-Violet and Violet Copics and all the shadows and the sky all Cool Greys.

Hip to be Square...

HIP TO BE SQUARE - CARD #1

This week is the Craft Your Passion Challenge #131 called Hip to be Square.  (You just have to make a square card!)  I have made two different cards - this one is CAS and the 2nd is, well, a lot busier!
For this card I used the Spotlight Technique - coloring only the center with Copics. I added a sentiment slider, three black gems to mimic the dots of the circle and three brads for the corners of the panel.
This card should be eligible for the following
CHALLENGES:
MarkerPOP #8 - Oldies but Goodies (some of my first colors were YR & YG)
Sassy Cheryl #135 - Think About Fall
PaperTake Weekly - Anything Goes
Sentimental Sunday - Anything Goes

SUPPLIES AND TECHNIQUES
IMAGES:  The focal image is called Pumpkin Watering Can by Pattie's Creations
PAPER:  Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80# Cover Wt. used for the images; matting layer from stash; base CS is Georgia Pacific
EMBELLISHMENTS: Ribbon, brads & bling from stash.
INKS: the image was printed on a Canon PIXMA printer & colored with Copics:

HIP TO BE SQUARE CARD #2
Like I said, this one is a WHOLE lot busier!  I have a lot of favorite old household items in my collection from my "scene" making days and I thought this image definitely called for some backup!  "Chef Pattie" consists of just the chef, stove and the pot on the stove - all were fussy cut.  All the other things are individual stamps that I colored, cut out, sculpted and mounted 3-D to help the dimension.  I papered the wall, made the base-board and flooring, everything else was stamped.

This card should be eligible for the following
CHALLENGES:
2 Sisters #111- Favorite Stamps (old collection of "household" items)
Sassy Cheryl #135 - Think About Fall
PaperTake Weekly - Anything Goes
Divas by Design #55 - Use Texture

SUPPLIES AND TECHNIQUES
IMAGES:  The focal image is "Chef Pattie" by Pattie's Creations; the following images were added to the scene: rug, broom, bag of flour and bag of salt, hanging pan, shelf with bowl, jam, teapot, and recipe box, and finally the framed "Home Sweet Home".  These images have all been with me so many years, I'm not sure they are still made - but if you are interested in the source, leave me a comment and I will get back to you.
PAPER:  Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80# Cover Wt. used for the images; DP is by Basic Grey - Indie Bloom collection; base CS is Georgia Pacific
EMBELLISHMENTS:  01 Micron pen used to draw in flooring & oven racks.
INKS:  the image was printed on a Canon PIXMA printer & colored with Copics:

Think Pink...

Another "Think Pink" card for Breast Cancer Awareness.  A really simple card made totally with desk scraps.  I love to re-cycle paper and images - but I have to force myself sometimes to use up that pile that collects over time!

Base card stock is pink - added the DP with spots, a piece of ribbon, another layer of pink CS and a layer with a background stamp on it - all of which were leftovers from other cards.  Finally is a die cut from who knows where!!  the only thing I did was to draw in and emboss the birds eye in black and put glitter on the heart.

This card should be eligible for the following
CHALLENGES:
Totally Papercrafts #136 - Pretty Pastels
Simon Says - Anything Goes
Paper Shelter #83 - Anything Goes
Paper Take Weekly - Anything Goes

Save the Hooters...

Challenge #130 at Craft Your Passion is all about Breast Cancer Awareness
I chose to use these two Owls and the tree out of a set from The Cutting Cafe. for my contribution.  You can see a lot of great inspiration from the
CYP Design Team (HERE)

I printed the owls and the trunk of the tree on Neenah and colored them with Copics.  The body of the leaves and the oval with the sentiment are paper pieced.  Background has two layers of embossed papers... the base card and the white layer have both been run thru a Cuttlebug with Embossing Folders.  Pinkish Distress Inks were run very lightly over the embossing on the base CS.  Candi in the upper left corner help balance the weight of the tree and mimic the polka dots.  The eyes were heat embossed.  Final touches were a pink ribbon around the tree and tiny brads to hold the sentiment in place.

This card should be eligible for the following
CHALLENGES:
Crafty Ribbons - Anything But Square
Totally Papercrafts #136 - Pretty Pastels
Simon Says - Anything Goes
