TinkerBat...

Happy Halloween!
This is our pet bat who lives outside our bathroom window... between the screen and the shade - we named him TinkerBat.  He is a Mexican Free-tailed Bat - considered the "jet" of bats - very fast flyers!  Wing span can be 12-14 inches and they live up to 18 years.  TinkerBat has been coming for 5 -6 years now, and only once brought a girlfriend home for a couple of weeks.  He leaves for Mexico, or other destinations South, about the 1st or 2nd week of Oct. - so he is gone by Halloween.  We start looking for him in early June.

In honor of TinkerBat I made this card for Halloween...

Here is my process:

  • I started with this incredible bat image - a rubber stamp from Stampendous - which I colored with Copics.  He was fussy cut and embossed from the back to round his body and wings.
  • On a black CS folded to an A2 size, I added the background paper with the edges inked with 'Milled Lavender' and 'Dusty Concord'  Distress Inks.
  • The ribbon, row of black houses, the sentiment and the background paper were all given to me by a friend - "left overs" from her Halloween cards.  I matted the circle sentiment with yellow and black mats, embossed all three layers to round them and mounted them on foam tape to simulate a moon.  The ribbon was laid down like a street for my houses - and I used the same YR Copic I used for the bat's eyes to create lights in some of the windows.
  • The last step was to mount the bat with 2 layers of foam tape under the wings and the body glued flat to the background.
  • The inside was completed with my favorite Halloween sentiment!
Here are a few more shots of TinkerBat before I close:

IMAGES:
  • The image is from one of the challenge sponsors - Stitchy Bear Digital Stamps.
  • For the focal image I used Paper Tole Technique to give her dimension. Printed 3 copies, colored them with Copics, fussy cut and 'paper sculpted' the images.  The layers were both glued in some places & elevated in others with foam tape to achieve the desired dimension.
PAPER:

  • Neenah "Classic Crest Solar White" 80# Cover Wt. used for the image.
  • A scrap of pink CS was used for the inside & was matted with white CS that I colored [the edges that show] with the same dark Copic used in the coloring of her clothing.  This is a valuable tip when you can't find paper to match your palette.

  • Spellbinders' die was used for the scalloped oval for the image and the mat.
  • A Cuttlebug die cut was used for the sentiment and also for the E-folder for the all white embossed candles.

    Snow Lady...

If you like "Snow Lady with Ornaments"
    you can find her HERE
I thought this was going to be a really simple image & would make a good CAS [Clean And Simple] card... hmmmm.  Then I remembered this challenge at 613 Ave C was to include subway art.  It got more involved quickly!  With the Subway art background I needed to make the image stand out - so went with my frequent 'go to' Paper Tole and made him three layers.  Then came the felt trees for contrast, and then the white enamel Dew Drops for balance and the glitter & shine and bling on the ornaments!   Nope, not a CAS card now!
You can see all the wonderful inspiration that the 613 Design Team has for you and submit your work for the ATG/ Optional Twist of Use Subway Art theme at the same link!  There are several prizes from several sponsors up for grabs -  and your chances are good!

613 Ave C's challenge for this week is ATG/or optional twist to use a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt to celebrate her October 13th birthday!
Now, very quickly I must say - the sentiment on my card is NOT from Eleanor - I am going the Anything Goes route with my project!  Though, knowing her sense of humor, I lay odds she might have said this one if the opportunity presented itself!  Do check out what the DT gals are doing - sooo creative!  And then come play with us!
