National RAK Day 2/17

1920 Flapper was provided by Mi Ran
Random Act of Kindness...
Who knew there was a day celebrating it?  Such a good excuse to find someone who deserves a "Just Because"!

This is my inspiration card for the 613 Ave. Create Challenge this week for "Nat'l RAK Day"   I chose to use this fabulous 1920s Flapper image that so amuses me from the Art by Mi Ran collection.

To see the other Design Team's inspiration cards and the challenge details go HERE!

TECHNIQUE
[Note: specific information on supplies and sources will be found below under “Supplies”.]
  • White base card cut to A2 size with a left hand fold
  • Image was printed out twice, colored with Copics, fussy cut & sculpted and finally the head and part of her fur stole were layered using foam tape for elevation.
  • TOP TIP: Once you have fussy cut an image, use a marker in a grey, black or [my favorite] the darkest shade of the color used in each portion to color the white edges. This gives a very finished look to your image.
  • A Deco corner punch was used on the focal image panel, the DP mat and the base card.
  • The design element on the right border was created with a Martha Punch, ribbon and half pearls to enhance the Art Deco theme.  Even though this eclectic art style did not flourish till the 1930s and 1940s - "the style is often characterized by rich colors, bold geometric shapes, and lavish ornamentation" per Wikipedia.  To me the Flapper is the epitome of this style.
  • The sentiment tag was added to the ribbon's bow.
  • The inside was created with left over design elements and another sentiment of "Just Because".
  • Strand of Pearls were enhanced with "White Opal" Liquid Pearls.
  • Diamond glaze used on the diamond on her head band and the little seeds were enhanced with foil & Duo Glue.

Felt Fun!

Sentiment is TLC Creations
This mildly grunge piece was made for 613 Ave C's Challenge theme of  "Use Felt".  I wigged a bit... I have no felt in my RubberRoom what so ever!  {Say what??!!}
After much thought, I decided I would use the only felt I could think of in the house.  In our "Fix-it" drawer, along with my hammer and picture hanging gear, I had some felt pads used for the bottoms of chair legs or under ceramic vases or on kitchen cabinet doors to keep them from banging.  They are self adhesive and definitely FELT!  I found in stash some self adhesive ribbon with the same warm grey tones and a sentiment I have longed to use forever. The final step was to "grunge" up the look a bit with Distress Inks along the edges.  Done, done and done!  Sometimes a challenge is definitely a challenge - but rewarding when you meet it.
Wanna see how others are Using felt?  By all means you should check out the creative ideas from the 613 DT which can be seen HERE!
So what can YOU do with felt??  Try this challenge yourself at 613 Ave C!
